My Story
This is how I got to $1 million starting from scratch. First, some family history. My grandfather was a farmer and mechanic. He ran a gas station that someone else owned. When he retired, he turned all his savings over to an investment manager, who soon closed shop and skipped town, taking all my grandfather’s money with him. He had nothing left to pass on to his kids after a life of hard work.
My other grandfather grew up working on railroads and shipyards. He was lucky enough to work for a company that gave him a lump sum pension when he retired. He turned that money over to a portfolio manager because he didn’t know how to invest it himself. The portfolio manager took a one percent fee every year for the next 30 years. Portfolio managers rarely if ever beat an index fund and this portfolio manager certainly didn’t. My grandfather could’ve been $2 million richer if he hadn’t paid that one percent portfolio management fee all those years.
I’m telling you all this because most people don’t know how to manage their own money or how to invest. The truth is it doesn’t take a genius to do it. I can teach you in five or ten minutes how to start investing your own money and make just as much as a portfolio manager who will charge you huge fees.
